The third international festival of poetry Meridian Czernowitz will take place in western Ukrainian city of Chernivtsi on September 6-9, 2012. The event will focus on modern European poetry and facilitate creative dialogue between local artists and their colleagues from abroad.
The festival will feature poetic readings, lectures, book presentations, theatrical and musical performances, videopoetry, electropoetry (poetry with electronic music), poetry used in animation, and other poetry-themed events. Austrian, German, Polish, Swiss, and Ukrainian publishing houses will participate in a book exhibition at Meridian Czernowitz.
The festival will feature poets from Austria, Denmark, Germany, Israel, Lichtenstein, Luxemburg, Moldova, the Netherlands, Poland, Romania, Switzerland, the UK, Ukraine, and the USA. Among the unconventional events of the festival will be a poetry walk and an open mic.
A poetry walk on the first day of Meridian Czernowitz will last from 6.45 p.m. till 9 p.m. The event will involve the participants walking from venue to venue presenting their works to the audiences. Five cafés will host the walk. An open mic will be held on September 9th at 11 a.m. Anyone courageous enough to take the microphone will have a chance to present their poetic creations to the audience of the event.
While most of the events of Meridian Czernowitz will take place in Chernivtsi, the guests will also be transferred to historical towns Khotyn and Kamianets-Podilskyi for part of the festival.
In 2011, poets, musicians, sculptors, DJs, poetry interpreters, artists from Austria, France, Germany, Israel, Moldova, Poland, Romania, Russia, Switzerland, the UK, the USA, and Ukraine joined the event. Christiane Lange, Hans Ruprecht, and Thomas Wohlfahrt were the special guests of Meridian Czernowitz.
