Klaus Reichert, born 1938 in Fulda, studied philosophy and German as well as English studies. He has been Professor of English and American studies at the Goethe University Frankfurt.
He translated (and wrote about) Shakespeare, Joyce and the Song of Solomon and edited Virginia Woolf´s as well as James Joyce´s work in German. Klaus Reichert is a poet himself and published several books of poems.
He received numerous prizes, e.g. the Wieland-Übersetzerpreis (1983) and the Bundesverdienstkreuz 1. Klasse (2013). He is a fellow of the German Academy for Language and Literature and has been its President from 2002 to 2011, today he is the Academy´s Honorary President.
