Emmanuel Moses was born in Casablanca, Morocco in 1959. He grew up in Cachan and Paris. In 1969, his family moved to Jerusalem. Emmanuel Moses spent seventeen years in Israel. Since 1986, he lives and works in Paris.
Emmanuel Moses has published 15 books and translated poetry from English ( C.K. Williams, Raymond Carver), Hebrew (Amichai, Carmi, Pagis, among others) and German (Peter Huchel). He directed two anthologies of Hebrew verse (Obsidiane; Gallimard). Two of his novels have been translated into German and a selection of his poetry “Last News from Mr. Nobody” (translated by Marilyn Hacker, C.K. Williams and Kevin Hart among others), has been published in the US (Handsel/Other Press) in January 2005. A second collection “He and I”, translated by Marilyn Hacker, came out in September 2009 (Oberlin College Press, Field Series).
Among his awards there are the Nelly-Sachs Prize for translation, the Max-Jacob Prize for poetry and the Ploquin-Caunan Academie Française prize.
