Ralph Dutli was born in Schaffhausen/Switzerland in 1954. He studied Romance languages and literature as well as Russian in Zürich and Paris. Today he lives in Heidelberg as an author and translator (of Marina Zwetaja and Joseph Brodksy for example).
He edited the complete works of Ossip Mandelstam in German and wrote Mandelstams biography Meine Zeit, mein Tier (2003). He also published several books with poems, essays and recently a novel called Soutines letzte Fahrt (2013). Ralph Dutli received numerous prizes such as the Johann-Heinrich-Voß-Preis and he is a fellow of the German Academy for Language and Literature.
